Industry leaders confirmed to speak at FIPP World Magazine Congress in May

Some of the world's most successful and influential magazine leaders have been confirmed as speakers at the 35th FIPP World Magazine Congress in New York on 22-24 May.

The conference, hosted by Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) at the Waldorf=Astoria in New York City, will provide a forum for attendees to discuss and shape the issues of the worldwide magazine publishing industry.

Under the conference theme, 'Magazines Make Things Happen', an impressive lineup of keynote presenters and speakers from Asia-Pacific, Africa, Europe, Latin America and North America, will share their publishing experiences from around the world. All of the world's major magazine markets will be represented.

Commenting on the line-up, FIPP president and CEO, Donald Kummerfeld, said: "This is an exciting and stimulating line-up of some of the most impressive leaders in the business. I am thoroughly looking forward to the event in May which promises to be the industry highlight of the year."

Keynote speakers include:

  • Robert Civita, President & Editor, Editora Abril S.A.  He is the Monday Luncheon Keynote.
  • Yukoh Kawamura, Chairman and CEO Nikkei Business Publications Inc.  He will address cross-border publishing in Asia from a Japanese perspective.
  • Jack Kliger, President and CEO, Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S.  He will talk about the industry-wide coalition currently underway to assure that magazines are top of advertisers' minds (and budgets).
  • William Lauder, President and CEO, Estee Lauder Companies.  He will explore the role magazines have played in building their brands and the possibilities for further collaboration.
  • Don Logan, Chairman, Media and Communications Group, Time Warner.  He will explain why magazines will continue to be an important, technologically efficient way to reach consumers.
  • John Maeda, Allen Professor of Media Arts and Sciences, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).He will reveal creative, new digital paths that publishers might follow in the near future.
  • Renetta McCann, CEO, The Americas, Starcom Worldwide.  She will share how magazines can leverage their unique position with the consumer.
  • Harold (Terry) McGraw III, Chairman, President and CEO, The McGraw-Hill Companies.  He will address the opportunities and responsibilities of multi-platform content providers in the dynamic digital world.
  • Jonathan Newhouse, Chairman, The Condé Nast Publications Inc./International.  He will challenge some assumptions and beliefs which underlie the idea that branding is the road to international magazine success.
