MPA appoints Mary G. Berner as new president and CEO


Mary G. Berner has been named president and CEO, MPA, the Association of Magazine Media, it was announced by Michael A. Clinton, chairman of the MPA Board of Directors, and president, marketing and publishing director, Hearst Magazines, USA. Berner will begin her new role on 17 September 2012.

Berner will replace current MPA president and CEO, Nina Link. Link will serve in an advisory capacity until the end of the year, beginning on 17 September.

Said Clinton: "We’re fortunate to have a CEO of Mary's caliber leading the industry charge going forward at a time of unprecedented transformation and opportunity. As a seasoned CEO who has successfully run several of the world’s largest and most successful media companies and brands during pivotal times, her dynamic leadership skills, deep and broad understanding of the media landscape, and strategic vision are exactly what we need at this critical time. "

"I love a challenge—especially when the facts are on our side—as is the case with the strengths of magazine media,” said Berner. “I'm bullish on the fact that magazine brands offer their consumers and advertisers incredibly powerful and unique value on every platform.  I look forward to working with the MPA board to strongly and loudly push our member organisation's agenda forward. The industry deserves nothing less."

Berner has led B2B media companies and brands such as Glamour, Allrecipes.com, TV Guide, W, Women’s Wear Daily, Brides, Every Day with Rachael Ray and the Reader’s Digest Association. She has also overseen the conversion of business models from print only to digital distribution, built digital products and brands, and created innovative digital and mobile product and product extensions in and across businesses.  

Most recently, Berner was president and CEO of the Reader’s Digest Association.
