Retail in China: changing consumer priorities open doors for brands

The retail category grew a phenomenal 3,827 per cent in value in this year’s BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Chinese Brands ranking, reaching a total of $62.3bn. Alibaba, which made its debut at number two after a record breaking IPO, drove much of this increase. But, even without taking its contribution into account, the category grew 64 per cent, bouncing back from the previous two-year decline.
