Combined Circulation Chart shows continuing growth for UK magazine brands in tablet sector, says PPA

UK national association, PPA, has released the latest version of its Combined Circulation Chart (CCC), which they say underlines the growing demand among tablet users for content from the UK’s leading magazine brands.

Drawing on ABC-audited circulation data for the six-month period from January-June 2013, the chart details a title’s print circulation figure, its digital edition circulation figure, and the aggregate of the two as a combined circulation figure (where both are available).

The chart includes only those titles that report both an ABC-audited digital edition and print circulation figure for the six-month period.

Barry McIlheney, CEO of PPA, said: “With this second Combined Circulation Chart (CCC) we can clearly see the considerable strides publishers are continuing to make in opening up their content to new audiences on established and emerging tablet devices and platforms. Digital editions are proving to be extremely popular and, given the iPad was only introduced to the UK market a mere three years ago, we are still in the very early days of a revolutionary period that is redefining how we think about magazines.

“Added to this combined reach in print and digital editions, publishers are also rapidly deepening their engagement with audiences on mobiles and websites, at live events, via e-commerce channels and a whole host of other touchpoints – many of which are audited and accessible via ABC’s QuickView data tool. While the CCC is therefore not a measure of the total reach of today’s magazine brands, it is a mark of real progress in a world where a single ABC-audited print circulation figure no longer does justice to magazine brands and their dedicated teams who are demonstrating world-class innovation and creativity in bringing their content to audiences in these exciting new ways.”
