Bloomberg launches Gen AI news summaries to enhance user experience

Bloomberg has initiated a new venture into artificial intelligence by launching AI-generated news summaries on its terminal. This new feature follows the implementation of AI-generated earnings call summaries.

The newly introduced news summaries consist of three succinct bullet points that appear at the beginning of Bloomberg News articles on the terminal. According to the company, these summaries are evaluated by subject matter experts to continuously improve the performance of the underlying large language model.

The primary goal of these AI-driven tools is to enable users to save time while making decisions regarding which news stories warrant deeper exploration.

Chris Collins, Chief Product Officer of News at Bloomberg, articulated the challenges faced by today’s financial professionals, stating, “The fast-paced information landscape is increasingly challenging for financial professionals and news audiences to navigate.” The AI-powered summaries are designed to assist users in staying informed about the news critical to making well-informed business decisions.

The move by Bloomberg underscores a growing trend within the publishing industry, as more organisations adopt AI technologies to enhance content creation, editing, and distribution. The integration of AI promises to improve operational efficiency and personalisation in media, reflecting a broader transformation impacting how news content is produced and consumed.
