Ciao, Olá, Konnichiwa! FIPP Congress goes multilingual
This year’s FIPP World Media Congress, taking place in Madrid, Spain from 21-23 October, is set to be more inclusive than ever, thanks to the introduction of state-of-the-art, real-time translation into over 60 languages.
Seamless access
In a pivotal move towards greater accessibility, FIPP has invested in leading translation technology, enabling delegates to access live translations via their own devices – either as on-screen text or audio. This means that wherever you’re joining from, you’ll be able to follow the full Congress programme in the language most comfortable for you.
Delegates can simply use their smartphones, tablets, or laptops to access translations, and audio can be streamed directly into their own headphones or earbuds. While FIPP will not be providing headsets on-site, attendees are encouraged to bring their preferred headphones to make full use of the system.
Post-event, the same technology will allow for captioning of recorded sessions on demand, making it even easier to catch up on missed content or revisit key insights in your chosen language.
Commitment to inclusivity
FIPP has secured access to this advanced translation technology for the next 12 months, allowing it to be deployed not only at the World Media Congress but also across other key FIPP events throughout the year.
By giving delegates the choice of how they engage – whether through audio or text, on their own device and in their preferred language – this approach also supports a more personalised and flexible experience. It’s a move that not only enhances accessibility across languages and locations, but also offers a more comfortable option for neurodivergent attendees or anyone who benefits from greater control over their sensory environment.
Importantly, this new investment also reflects FIPP’s ongoing commitment to accessibility. It aligns with the latest EU regulations around audio accessibility at events, helping to ensure that inclusion remains a central focus and that all delegates can engage fully with Congress.
A significant step forward
Ultimately, by using this new multilingual capability to remove language as a potential barrier, FIPP is inviting professionals from every corner of the publishing and media world to take part, contribute, and connect.
“We’re incredibly excited to be making the FIPP World Media Congress and our future events more accessible than ever before,” said Alastair Lewis, CEO of FIPP.
“By offering real-time translation in over 60 languages, we’re opening the doors to a truly global audience. It’s a significant step forward in making our events more inclusive, more engaging, and more representative of the diverse industry we serve.”
In short: with multilingual access now built in, every delegate can experience the Congress on their own terms. Whether from Seoul or São Paulo, Stockholm or Singapore, everyone can take part in this year’s Congress – clearly, fully, and in their own language.
