Elle Türkiye takes a stand against violence towards women in November edition
The November issue of Elle Türkiye has landed at kiosks with a special message for women: “You cannot touch my body, my freedom, my rights”.
Ahead of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25, the cover features TV actress Elçin Sangu making a stop sign with her hand to highlight the inviolability of women’s rights and freedoms.
In her interview, she invites all women to read the Istanbul Convention signed by 38 countries as a human rights treaty of the Council of Europe opposing violence against women and domestic violence.
“Of course, changes are not easy, they are painful processes. No matter how much the system exhausts us, it is nice to be able to be a part of the change as a human being and a citizen of this country,” says Sangu, emphasising that human psychology, social dynamics, cultural norms, economic conditions, gender inequality in education and political systems are at the root of violence.
“Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of Turkish Republic, put forward his modern and enlightened vision on women’s rights years ago, and it is the duty of all of us to protect his legacy.”
In addition to the special cover shoot, the November issue of Elle Türkiye features an extensive dossier titled “Don’t Shut Up, Take Action and Organise”, bringing together experts and outspoken figures taking action against violence.
Elle Türkiye has a been a tireless advocate for women’s empowerment and solidarity since the day it was launched.
For the latest edition Publishing Director Melda Narmanlı Çimen joined forces with Fashion Director Aslı Asil and fashion photographer Burcu Karademir to create a special moodboard including visual, verbal and styling codes to invite women to feel safe and free by rejecting masculine oppression, verbal, psychological and physical violence and to remind them how strong they are.
According to Çimen, Sangu became the messenger of this moodboard and all their feelings, pointing out that we need more courageous women who are empowered by the little girl inside them, who stand on their own feet, inspire, give hope, produce and dare to dream. She also thanked Sangu and her team for trusting and supporting them with their ideas since the beginning of the project.
