The new buttons had gone live in Ireland and Spain beforehand, where Facebook tested the waters from October last year onwards. “What [users] really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment,” Mark Zuckerberg said back then. The ‘like’ button now is ages old in social media terms: It has been featured since 2009.
