Emanuele Farneti has been appointed new editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia and L’Uomo Vogue

Farneti is the third editor of Vogue Italia, which was launched in 1966 at the request of Samuel Irving Newhouse and was initially helmed by Franco Sartori.

Jonathan Newhouse, chairman and chief executive of Condé Nast International, said: “I am pleased to announce the appointment of Emanuele Farneti as editor of Vogue Italia and L’Uomo Vogue.

Emanuele is one of the most experienced, accomplished and admired editors in Italy today, with experience as editor-in-chief of eight magazines in his career. Trained in television, he first came to Condé Nast Italia in 1999 as part of the team which launched Gentlemen’s Quarterly (GQ). He left to take senior management roles in newspaper journalism. He was editor of the fashion magazine Flair and created the new title Icon. In 2014 he returned to Condé Nast Italia where he served as Editor of AD and relaunched it before taking on his current position as editor of GQ.

Emanuele is considered to be a true “magazine maker” who brings to a title surprise, visual freshness and a true commitment to quality at the highest level.

Emanuele, of course, follows the legendary Franca Sozzani, whose brilliance made Vogue Italia and its companion L’Uomo Vogue worldwide references for fashion and photography.

There was only one Franca. Yet she herself recognised that Vogue had a life which transcended the creativity of any individual. She knew and had great respect for Emanuele, and I believe she would have approved.

Please join me in wishing Emanuele the very best as he takes on this important responsibility.”
