Lukas Gähwiler joins Ringier board of directors

After approval by the General Assembly, the Swiss financier will join the Ringier board of directors in June 2017. The experienced bank manager, who joined the UBS Group executive board in 2010 as CEO Switzerland and successfully led the bank’s Swiss business activities until the end of August 2016, has been chairman of the board at UBS Switzerland since April of this year.

Lukas Gähwiler has a comprehensive knowledge of the banking industry – from private customer business and asset management, through to corporate customer business and investment banking. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Applied Sciences St. Gallen, and completed an MBA programme in New York as well as the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School in Boston.

Michael Ringier, publisher and chairman of the board of directors, says: ‘Not only is Lukas Gähwiler an accomplished expert in the Swiss and international business scene, he is also a manager who has promoted digitalisation projects within and outside of UBS. We are delighted that he will be bringing his extensive professional knowledge and interpersonal skills to Ringier.’

Under Gähwiler’s leadership, UBS was one of the founding members of the local initiative DigitalZurich2025 launched by Ringier in 2015, which now acts across Switzerland as digitalswitzerland. Gähwiler is also a member of digitalswitzerland’s steering committee.
