Episode 2 of the Media Unscripted podcast now available on general release

The second instalment of FIPP’s new Media Unscripted podcast, presented in partnership with PressReader, is now available across all major platforms. The episode features co-Founder & Publisher of Tortoise Media, Katie Vanneck-Smith, who is also responsible for launching the UK’s first-ever news paywall at The Times, as well as helping to generate some serious subscriber numbers for The Wall Street Journal.

The show format sees Industry Journalist & Podcast Host, Charlotte Ricca, chat informally to some of the media’s biggest and most pioneering names, lifting the curtain on an industry that can still seem slightly detached from those working outside of it and at times even many within. “It’s unscripted, unedited, and unafraid to ask the awkward questions,” says Ricca.

In Episode 2, Vanneck-Smith explains where her passion – and talents – for what she does originally came from.

“Very early on in the nineties when I started out,” Katie says, “ I realised I could be part of this industry even though I’m not a jourtnalist – like I could be part of it. And that I could find my focus as being, as I have done throughout my career, how do you find a sustainable business model for the thing you love, which is journalism.”

“That’s what makes it fun. I get my fun from being with people, but also doing the job that I love. And feeling in a small, tiny way that doing what I do is important in the industry I work in, even though I’m not the creative Gods of that industry.”
