Facebook appoints Nicola Mendelsohn VP of Global Business Group

Facebook has appointed Nicola Mendelsohn as Vice President of its Global Business Group. The exec has served as the company’s VP of Europe, Middle East & Africa since 2013, and has already been filling the new role in an interim capacity since June of this year, following the departure of Carolyn Everson.

Marne Levine, Chief Business Officer for Facebook, said: “Ever since I met Nicola nearly a decade ago, she has blown me away with her deep knowledge of the business and her focus on supporting partners and clients. Nicola has built an impressive track record over the last eight years growing our advertising business into what it is today. And Nicola has been a compassionate and thoughtful leader for our people every step of the way. I’m excited for what this next chapter means—not only for Nicola, but also for our partners, our teams, and our business.”

Mendelsohn herself added: “Since the first day I walked through the door at Facebook eight and a half years ago, I have been so grateful for the opportunity to do work I care about, with colleagues I adore, and partners and clients who inspire me to put our best foot forward on their behalf every day. I believe deeply that our platforms are a force for good, and I see our mission play out in innumerable ways every day.”

“From where I sit, that looks like people coming together to donate to non-profits, finding common ground across shared interests, and staying connected to the people and businesses that matter most to them. And one of the things I’ve always enjoyed most is sitting with businesses of all sizes and helping them figure out how to use our tools to help them grow — and how to do it in a way that serves not only their business goals, but equally the lives and livelihoods of the people behind them. There’s no one who takes this work more seriously than we do, and I’m proud day in and day out of what we’ve accomplished.”

The VP is also a non-executive of Diageo, serves on the UK government’s Digital Economy Council, the Mayor of London’s Business Advisory Board, and is co-President of the charity Norwood.

Prior to joining Facebook, Nicola held roles at BBH, Grey and Karmarama, and was also the first female President of the IPA (the advertising industry trade body. In 2015, she was awarded a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the country’s creative industries.

Last week, she spoke at the IAB UK Digital Upfronts conference, urging brands to “get their heads around” the metaverse, and the opportunities that emerging opportunities in this space will inevitably provide.
