UPDAY expands to include local news in six countries

UPDAY, the news service app, has expanded its offering to include local news alongside topic-specific national content. Users of Android devices in Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Poland can now select a region in their UPDAY settings and receive the corresponding local content, regardless of their physical location.

In total, UPDAY – the result of a collaboration between Axel Springer SE and Samsung Electronics – has added more than 500 local media outlets and over 1,000 local RSS feeds from national media to its news sources.

The news service is a response to numerous user requests for local content, as well as to the increased interest of local publishers in distributing their content via the popular UPDAY app.

Aneta Nowobilska, Chief Product Officer at UPDAY, said: “For people, the most relevant and interesting topics are often those that take place directly in their environment. That’s why UPDAY now covers all journalistic content from global news situations to local events.

“We are very pleased to be able to meet the needs of both our users and publishers. Our new offering further enhances and individualises the user experience and we can well imagine expanding it in the future.”
