WIRED UK’s summer events series kicks off Friday 7 May

WIRED UK is kicking off its summer event series in just a few days’ time, with the first two instalments taking place as virtual conferences on Friday 7 May.

In the morning, WIRED Innovate, a special live broadcast, will run for 90 minutes and cover the future of sustainability across fashion, food, health and technology.

Featured speakers include:

  • Tessa Clarke – In order to fight food waste, Tessa Clarke co-founded OLIO, a free app connecting neighbours with each other, and volunteers with local businesses, so that surplus food can be given away, not thrown away.
  • Christopher Raeburn – A pioneer in the reworking of surplus fabrics and garments for luxury fashion, Christopher Raeburn is the Founder and Creative Director of British fashion label RÆBURN, as well as the Global Creative Director of Timberland.
  • Cecilia Harvey – Tech Women Today founder Cecilia Harvey is the CEO and co-founder of Hyve Dynamics, a technology firm providing sensor technology and data insights. Cecilia was featured in British Vogue’s 2020 ‘Forces for Change’ campaign.

In the afternoon, WIRED Pulse: Quantum – also live and running for 90 minutes – will break down the complex topic of quantum computing and explore the technology that is transforming medicine, breaking encryption and revolutionising communications and artificial intelligence.

Featured speakers include:

  • whurley (William Hurley) – Tech entrepreneur whurley is the founder and CEO of Strangeworks, a quantum computing startup working to make the power of quantum computing easily accessible and available to all.
  • Leonie Mueck – As Chief Product Officer for quantum software company Riverlane, Leonie Mueck is responsible for building, commercialising and marketing Riverlane’s product lines.
  • Ilana Wisby – An advisor to the WEF’s Future Council on Quantum, Ilana Wisby is the founding CEO of Oxford Quantum Circuits, which develops the UK’s most advanced quantum computer to date.
