The first of our speakers to be revealed are:

Anas Abbar, CEO and co-founder, 7awi.com, UAE

Anas Abbar is a seasoned executive with over 20 years of work experience across multinationals and regional companies; his role is to execute on a vision that transforms ideas to products. Anas is the CEO and co-founder of 7awi.com, a leading online media publisher in MENA with top properties in Lifestyle and Entertainment, Autos, and Classifieds.

James Hewes, Publishing Director, GN Publishing, UAE

James Hewes joined Gulf News, one of the UAE’s largest media groups, as Publishing Director for GN Magazines in 2013. In 2014, he was appointed Publishing Director for GN Publishing, responsible for the group’s portfolio of consumer magazines, newspaper supplements and contract publishing.

Linus Gitahi, Advisor to the Board, Nation Media Group, Kenya

Linus Gitahi is an advisor to the board of Nation Media Group (NMB), the largest media group in East Africa with interests in print, digital, broadcasting and logistics. He served as CEO of NMG from November 2006 to July 2015. During his period at the helm, he grew profits from KES 950 million (around £6m) to KES 3.6bn (around £23m) and increased NMG’s market capitalisation four times.

Peter Kreisky, Chairman, The Kreisky Media Consultancy, LLC, USA

Peter Kreisky is an expert on the strategic transformation of traditional publishing companies for the digital age. Through Kreisky Media, a New York-based strategy advisory and consulting firm, he counsels traditional and digital media companies globally on strategy at the intersection of media and technology, working with blue-chip clients and digital innovators as a retained Senior Advisor, an Advisory Board member or in a project leadership role. In addition, Kreisky Media Ventures provides business development for companies competing in the media space, leveraging Kreisky’s extensive network worldwide

Suzy Brokensha, editor-in-chief of FAIRLADY and LOSE IT!, Media24, South Africa

Suzy Brokensha is regarded as one of the most experienced and innovative editors in South Africa. In her magazine career she has conceptualised, developed and edited several customer titles and headed up several women’s glossies, including Cosmo and Marie Claire. 

She is currently editor-in-chief of FAIRLADY, a monthly glossy now in its 50th year – one of the oldest and most prestigious titles in South Africa. She simultaneously edits LOSE IT! magazine, a print and digital bimonthly publication which also offers extremely successful online meal plans, which she conceptualised and developed.
