Forbes launches Under 30 channel on Forbes.com

Forbes under 30 ()

The new channel has a distinct mission to provide content for and by the young entrepreneurs and innovators who are changing the world. Forbes covers millennials across diverse industries, from tech and healthcare to social entrepreneurship and entertainment, and is known for its annual 30 Under 30 list. The Under 30 channel is the 14th content-specific channel on Forbes.com.

The new Under 30 vertical has a uniquely social mind-set and comes with its own social network through its companion Under 30 app. In addition to Forbes journalists and contributors who will publish on the channel, Forbes’ community of millennials – 1,500-plus strong – is invited to create content specifically for this vertical. This is the first time that content from an app – with the distinctive voice and aesthetic of the Under 30s – will be featured on the Forbes.com platform.

Content for the channel will include articles as well as videos, infographics, gifs, and photography, and will focus on newsmakers and rising stars, leadership and careers, trends and opinions, personal investing and money, and self-development.

“Our Under 30 members offer a unique voice and perspective for their demographic,” said Lewis D’Vorkin, Chief Product Officer at Forbes Media. “By launching the Under 30 channel on Forbes.com, we are providing them with a platform to reach the world.”

Leading up to the launch of the channel, Forbes hosted a first-time Content Hackathon for members of its Under 30 community. Forbes asked members to submit content on the theme of personal investing for a chance to have their work featured on the channel and to join as ongoing contributors. Over 100 members participated. The first winner was Chrisella Herzog who created “Student Loan Debts Are The Albatross Around Young Entrepreneurs’ Necks.” Forbes will use the app to identify contributors from its US-based 30 Under 30 lists, as well as its 30 Under 30 Europe and Asia lists, that are expected to launch in 2016.

  • Forbes.com’s global audience has grown from 15m in 2010 to 45m in 2015, according to comScore worldwide. Millennials make up 48 per cent of the audience on Forbes.com.
  • More than 50 per cent of Forbes.com’s traffic comes from a mobile device. Of these mobile users, 48 per cent are age 18-34.

The launch of Forbes’ Under 30 channel is the latest evolution of its Under 30 franchise. In 2011, Forbes launched its first 30 Under 30 list in Forbes magazine and on Forbes.com (with additional features online), and it has since expanded the franchise into an annual summit in the US (and soon worldwide), an exclusive app and now a dedicated channel on Forbes.com. Over the past year, six covers of Forbes magazine have featured Forbes Under 30 list members, including Stripe cofounder Patrick Collison; biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy; singer Katy Perry; Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey; Tinder CEO Sean Rad; and Pinterest cofounders Evan Sharp and Ben Silberman.
