The new Blippar augmented reality app allows users to simply "look" at an object through the camera on their mobile device to activate an instantaneous digital search and draw information about that object from the web.
For example, looking at an album cover could generate a list of search results including videos of the band, a source to buy tickets to an upcoming concert, details on what people are saying about them on Twitter, and photos of the band itself.
Blippar will be launching this new capability for all English-language album covers, fiction books, DVD covers and film posters in April. However, the company's ultimate aim is to make everything "blippable" – from an apple, to a dog on the street, to the Eiffel Tower.
"The human imagination, curiosity and the quest for knowledge are all often limited by our capacity to define and assign language to describe and seek answers from the world around us," said Blippar founder and chief executive Ambarish Mitra.
"Today marks the beginning of a new era of search, where curious users will be able to visually search the world through the lens of the Blippar app."

When I look at the state of mainstream media, I can’t help but ask the question. Why are so many news publishers pivoting back to paywalls when they didn’t work for most of them before?12th Mar 2018 Opinion

“The notion that print is dead is not accurate. I think print isn’t dead, it’s just different. Gone are the times where you can operate with an inflated rate base or 12 times per year as a standard. And I think gone are the days too where you were just concerned with whether there was enough fax paper in the machine where you got all of your signed insertion orders back. Those days are behind us. But print for many companies, Bonnier included, is still profitable. It’s just not at the margins that we once enjoyed. And I feel strongly that brands that sit one or two in a category or vertical can thrive if managed correctly.” - Eric Zinczenko, CEO, Bonnier Corporation12th Mar 2018 Features
