Meredith partners with Beekman 1802 to launch new magazine

Meredith is rolling out another collaborative magazine effort. The publisher is partnering with Beekman 1802, a bucolic lifestyle operation that includes e-commerce, physical retail, “The Fabulous Beekman Boys” TV show and now a new magazine called the Beekman 1802 Almanac.

Beekman 1802 was started in 2008 when former advertising exec Josh Kilmer-Purcell and his partner Brent Ridge, who used to be VP of Martha Stewart’s Healthy Living, bought the historic Beekman farm in upstate New York. The pair worked with local farmers and artisans to launch a mercantile. A reality TV program debuted shortly after.

The Beekman 1802 Almanac, will combine all of those elements into a curated collection of farm-to-page content—gift ideas, country cooking recipes, entertaining and gardening tips and so on—inspired by 19th century-style almanacs.

In an arrangement that echoes the Martha Stewart Living deal, Meredith will handle the production and distribution while Beekman will be in charge of content creation. The companies will work together on ad sales, splitting revenues.

The seasonal magazine will be newsstand-only, says a spokesperson, with 200,000 copies of the Fall/Winter issue hitting retailers on October 6. The cover price will be US$9.99 and it will stay on shelves until January.

The spokesperson says the first issue will be 96 pages, with 6 pages of advertising
