World Digital Media Factbook – revenue and usage trends that inspire innovation

Markets and the speed of change may differ, but the underlying trend towards the digitisation of magazine media affects all across the globe. This much was underlined again with nearly 200 magazine media participants from 39 countries registering for FIPP’s World Digital Media Factbook webinar, hosted on 25 October 2012 from London by Chris Llewellyn, president and CEO of FIPP, UK, and Martha Stone, CEO of the World Newsmedia Network, USA, and publisher of FIPP’s World Digital Media Factbook 2012/13.

The webinar was headed World Digital Media Factbook – revenue and usage trends that inspire innovation. Download a recording of the webinar presentation, and a copy of the webinar presentation.

The book includes 500 data sets as well as analysis, covering websites, social media and mobile devices and provides an in-depth overview of digital revenue and usage trends across the world. The book includes chapters on magazine media, newspapers and broadcasters.

Stone, who also presented at FIPP’s Digital Asia-Pacific and Ibero-American event in South Korea in September provided a webinar “tour de force” as she led participants through some of the highlights of the World Digital Media Factbook.

Judging from the high volume and variety of questions received during the webinar there is major appetite among magazine media stakeholders for this type of work (good news: FIPP and WNMN will publish the Factbook annually).

Questions revolved around general print/digital trends, digital advertising, and apps and digital subscription. There were questions on content or editorial management systems (cross-platform publishing) as well as questions related to specific country markets. Tweets following the webinar included:

  • Darren Smith (@DazMSmith): It was an insightful webinar into a complex but necessary component of the media mix. Now to get the report!
