Digital Innovators’ Tour Spotlight: Gannett

Gannett is one of the largest media companies in the world, with its flagship national newspaper USA Today and 109 local media organisations in 34 US states. In spite of its size, Gannett has found a way to be nimble: It has its own Innovation Lab where it quickly develops concepts, new businesses and new initiatives. It also encourages Gannett employees to develop their own ideas and concepts for media products and businesses by supporting them with grants and helping them apply Design Thinking and Lean Startup methodologies. The best innovations are honoured at its annual Innovation Challenge Awards show, and the latest finalists included:

  • Destinate, a food/travel discovery product
  • Your Town Nashville, a small business marketing initiative
  • Just the FAQs, a mobile-focused video brand
  • RoveGuru, a pioneering new way to tell videos

The FIPP/VDZ Digital Innovators’ Tour taking place in May will meet with leaders at Gannett who are in charge of fostering innovation and drive the transformation of the company forward. We will get a tour of the Gannett newsroom and of the Innovation Lab where tour participants can see first-hand how Gannett is organised and set up to produce news and innovations. Participants also have a chance to see some of the ideas and concepts that have come out of the Innovation Lab. In addition to sharing how they foster internal innovation, the Gannett team will talk about their latest digital and mobile efforts and their thoughts on future revenue opportunities. The meeting will allow plenty of time for an active discussion between the visiting international publishing executives and the leadership team at Gannett.

Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to meet Gannett’s innovation team and see how they harness the power of their employees. Of course, the meeting with Gannett is only one of many – tour participants will have other engaging meetings with Atlantic Media, Hanley Wood, Google, Facebook, National Geographic and more.
