Not only will finalists receive global recognition for their work, but the top 3 winners will also be invited to speak at the 41st FIPP World Congress, taking place from 9-11 October in London, the UK.

We spoke to four of the previous winners (2016 and 2015) to hear why talented young professionals in the industry should enter.
Breton Fischetti is senior director, commerce at Business Insider, based in the US. He was a winner in 2016.
“It’s an honour to be recognised for the work you’re doing. And the Rising Star event in 2016 (where he presented) was an opportunity to make some great connections within our industry, which, as we know from the list of Rising Stars, is a truly global one,” says Breton.

Mieke Vlok is a journalist at Media24 Weekly Magazines in South Africa, where she writes for Afrikaans language Huisgenoot, the country’s biggest selling magazine. She was a winner in 2016.
“The FIPP conference (that winners get to attend) is a highlight on many industry professionals’ calendars. For a twenty-something person to have the opportunity to learn from some of the best minds in the field with years of experience, is a really big privilege. You will also meet people who are great at what they do and really friendly and interesting on top of that. The networking opportunities and chance to meet people from all over the world with a shared love of journalism is fantastic,” says Mieke.

Laura Wilson is account manager, jewellery, bridal and travel at Hearst’s Town & Country Magazine in the US. She was a winner in 2015.

Matthew Stepanic is founding editor and publisher of Glass Buffalo as well as editor at Tanner Young Publishing Group. He was a winner in 2015.
“It’ll help you understand your value in your team and the industry. As the publisher of a small literary magazine, I did not believe our minor successes would translate to the people who run much larger and more diverse media corporations. Winning this award has highlighted again the value in my magazine and how it serves its community and readers,” says Matthew.
