Axel Springer supervisory board appoints Dr. Stephanie Caspar as president technology and data

In her new role, she will also stay responsible for the national digital news media business. For the first time, the overarching technology and data strategy will be firmly embedded on Axel Springer’s board level. Stephanie Caspar will join as fifth board member.

The executive board consists of Dr. Mathias Döpfner (CEO), Dr. Julian Deutz (CFO and responsible for HR matters), Jan Bayer (president news media) and Dr. Andreas Wiele (president classifieds and marketing media). Also effective March 1st, 2018, Jan Bayer will additionally take over responsibility for the reach-based offerings within the Marketing Media division from Dr. Andreas Wiele. Dr. Andreas Wiele will continue to focus on the performance-based offering (AWIN Group) within marketing media as well as on the economically significant classifieds media division. The new structure aims at creating even better conditions for a closer cooperation of news and marketing media offerings.

Dr. Giuseppe Vita, chairman of the supervisory board, said: “As managing director, Stephanie Caspar very successfully managed the digital transformation of our core brand Welt. At the moment, she is bringing together Axel Springer’s digital media business in Germany. We look forward very much to continuing to be working together with Stephanie Caspar in her new role.”

Dr. Mathias Döpfner, CEO, added: “As a digital publisher, Axel Springer relies on excellent technology and data competence as well as even more speed in implementing new developments. With Stephanie Caspar, technology competence will be revalued and finally also be represented on board level with its own division.”

Dr. Stephanie Caspar joined Axel Springer in 2013. As managing director of Welt Group, she was responsible for the group’s development and successfully managed the integration of TV station N24 (today WELT). Since 2018, she is also responsible for the newly created publishing organisation which bundles all digital activities of Axel Springer’s German media brands, and for the digital sales within Media Impact, customer service and IT. In 2009, before joining Axel Springer, Stephanie Caspar founded digital retailer Mirapodo and worked as the company’s CEO. She started her career as business consultant at McKinsey, followed by diverse positions at ebay, among others as director strategy, and at Immobilienscout24 as member of the managing board.
